Inside looking out.

I think we're safer in hereInside Looking out

Should I stay in here or go out there

Can I walk outside without a care.

Outside I feel I must compete

Battles to fight,  deadlines to meet.

My facade portrays that all is fine

But it’s not the case all of the time.

Sometimes inside I feel amiss

And wonder what’s  the cause for this.

Inside my world  I know I’m safe

Pull up the drawbridge, close the gate.

Forsake the worries and the care

I’ll stay in here, not go out there.

Some days the world can seem a very scary place.  This poem is a little fun piece on how I sometimes just want to hide away from all the pressures of the day.  Can you relate to these feelings?

Hope you enjoy.

24 ways to create art – Method One and Two

An artwork is a representation of personal expression created with a variety of materials and techniques including but not limited to: drawing, painting, photography, digital art, sculpture, mixed media, installation, performance, and mixed media.  Through this physical creation we reveal our interpretation of learned topics combined with experiences and memories.  An artwork is a product of our imagination.

Creating a piece of artwork means constructing a visual image, whether it is three-dimensional or two-dimensional, to reflect your understanding of the assignment.  An artwork can be created in many different ways.  As long as it possesses your personal touch and demonstrates your thought process and message, it may be considered a work of art.

We have identified 24 different ways you can create art and we will cover each of these over the next month.

Method No One:

Drawing, the art of creating meaningful shapes from nothing, generally on paper

Drawing is a form of visual art that makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional medium. Instruments used include graphite pencilspen and inkinked brushes, wax colour pencilscrayonscharcoalchalkpastels, various kinds of erasers, markersstyluses, various metals (such as silverpoint) and electronic drawing. An artist who practices or works in technical drawing may be called a drafter or draftsman or draughtsman.

A small amount of material is released onto a surface, leaving a visible mark. The most common support for drawing is paper, although other materials, such as cardboard, plastic, leathercanvas, and board, may be used. Temporary drawings may be made on a blackboardor whiteboard or indeed almost anything. The medium has been a popular and fundamental means of public expression throughout human history. It is one of the simplest and most efficient means of communicating visual ideas. The wide availability of drawing instruments makes drawing one of the most common artistic activities

From the very beginning man has made marks to record their lives.   Firstly there were Cave paintings found on cave walls and ceilings,  those of prehistoric origin,  date back to some 40,000 years ago.

All civilisations – Chinese, Middle eastern,  Egyptian, Roman and Greek – all had their own methods and ways of placing their marks or drawings to record their journey.

This mark making continues right up  to modern times.

An Artist draws because they feel the need to make their mark.

Method No Two:

Engraving, a variant of sculpture, generally made in smaller items

engraving4Engraving has a history dating back over 1500 years and is the method used for incising or marking a design or text on to a hard surface by cutting grooves into the substrate.  The result may be very intricate, decorative or a simple statement.  The industrial revolution changed the methods employed as machines did much of the work previously done by hand. The advent of the computer has more recently revolutionised the engraving industry.   Many different types of machines have been introduced that can do the work faster and more precisely, improving turnaround and cost effectiveness.

AQUARIUS The Water Bearer…January 21 to February 18.

Image

Aquarius the fixed thinker of the Air signs, determined and clever. The Air element means you are a thinking type motivated by beliefs, strong opinions and interaction with other people.

As the ‘fixed’ Air sign you put a lot of energy into forming opinions and hold to them strongly. Driven by two planets, each representing opposite principles you frequently display a ‘wild’ side, linked to planet Uranus and prompting eccentric leanings, as well as a structured ambitious hard working Saturnian side. You are most happy when you are doing something different in a big ambitious way. You are the thinker of the zodiac, your key phrase: “I serve humanity”.

SATURN: Planet of Material Form   URANUS: Planet of Intuitive Impulse: Your Two Planetary Rulers – A strong desire to connect with groups of people, to express humanitarian principles and to explore social life drive you forward. The ‘waters’ that the Water Bearer carries are the waters of humanity and Aquarius serves humanity. Ancient Arabic Astrology says Aquarius is: “of hot and humid nature Spirited and different are words frequently applied to Aquarius and this carries through to the powerful differences between your two ruling planets. Traditional ruler, Saturn endows structure and ambition and conservative values while your modern ruler, Uranus endows intuition and inventive, restless spurts of energy. As an Air sign you manifest these different sides of yourself in the way you think and communicate and in some of the quirky choices you make. It is often your job to keep people guessing! The aspects of the body ruled by Aquarius are the ankles, calves, tibia, fibula, shin bone and the breath. ‘Spiritus’ or breath is critical to your wellbeing and Aquarians benefit greatly from meditation techniques and deep slow breathing. It stills the restless mind.

Uranus represents the aspiring and inspired mind that leads you ever onward, while Saturn represents the reality of the material world and the need to nurture your body. Their special message for Aquarius is follow your mental inspirations and humanitarian goals while honouring body and soul needs.

VIRGO — The Virgin…August 23 to September 22

virgoVirgo the most mentally oriented Earth sign, ruled by messenger Mercury. The Earth element means you are a sensate type, motivated by practical goals, able to juggle many different facts and details at once and usually manage them all. Virgo are neat and organised or chaotic and messy, but there will always be some corner of your home, which shows your obsession with order. You are most happy when able to serve your ambitions and the people you love, but also able to keep time for yourself in your busy schedule

Your Planetary Ruler is Mercury.

Analysing details and making perfect sense of them, reaching goals through careful management of time and energy – these activities make you the sign of the earthy harvest.) Mercury is associated with short journeys, with intelligence, with the ability to reason and analyse. Mercury rules both Virgo and Gemini and Virgo is the ‘night sign’ of Mercury. In the body Virgo rules the intestines, digestive organs and bowels. Your key to good health is developing the ability to put worries and concerns aside at the end of the day and listening to your digestion as an aid to appropriate diet.

One task that Mercury was given as messenger to the gods was to deliver the famous Pandora’s Box to the maiden of that name. He employed his trickster skills to pretend he was taking it elsewhere but unable to carry it further, then left it temptingly by Pandora’s side. She of course could not resist taking a look inside at which point all the ills of mankind flew out and the world of mortals was never the same again. The one saving grace was that the last thing to emerge was hope – the faculty that keeps us going even when times are grim. This is an important faculty for Virgo to cultivate, so that ‘taking care of business’ does not drive you into the ground. Rather than trying to fix everything and say “yes” to every request for help, Virgo can hope and trust that it’s not all on their shoulders.  Mercury represents the dexterity of the mind and the ability to read people. His special message for Virgo is to serenely do your work in the world, while trusting that others too can carry the load.
