Child’s Play

Original artwork painted in Oil on heavy duty stretched canvas.

It measures 1015mm x 760mm.

‘Child’s Play’ is a bright, cheerful, colorful image painted in a modern contemporary style in all the colours of the rainbow. It was painted with the view to add colour to the home.

In this large piece I painted geometric shapes to create a pleasant image and used every colour I could manage. Are they children’s building blocks? could be! It would particularly suit a children’s bedroom or the nursery but at the moment I currently have it in my own bedroom as I love this piece and the colours make me happy.

Overcome by Nature

PENTAX Image

Oil, Paper (collage) utilising cold wax medium on board.

Measurements: 67cm by 98cm

An ethereal figure in the landscape is swamped and overwhelmed by nature.

The piece is painted in oil using cold wax medium and small pieces of collage scattered around the canvas to create a complex natural environment.

I prefer to use traditional oil paint and utilise many layers of paint to create interest and depth. I also like to include the human form in my work.

Here I have aimed to achieve an abstracted view of nature which is reacting to the negative impact of human contact, the figure represents humankind.

Rising sea levels, unseasonably high temperatures and drought hint that Nature cannot take much more destructive treatment at the hands of humans.

3 Moons in an Orange Sky

Three moons in an orange sky.

29cm x 29cm

This small piece of atmospheric abstract art in orange, purple and green is a very moody and mysterious piece. It is full of character and takes the viewer to unknown places in their mind. The distinctive image brings up memories long forgotten.

Painted in acrylic on a wood.  It has a timber support ton back to hang on wall or it can be lent on a shelf as shelf art.

It is a very small piece of art and is perfect to fit into those places that need just a little colour or interest to make a corner of the house seem interesting.

The piece is signed on the back and is finished with a clear varnish.

Ghost Gums

Eucalyptus are a passion of mine. We lived next to bushland and spent hours playing among gum trees as a child and the smell of eucalyptus transports me back to those carefree times.

Therefore, it goes to say that Gum Trees are a bit of a passion of mine. I have painted many gum trees over the years and currently I’m working on a new series of paintings of my beloved Gums.

Ghost Gums is one of this series. For residents and travellers of Australia’s arid heartlands, it is the Ghost Gum, ranging prominently across rocky slopes, red sand plains and arid creek flats that typifies the outback.

Myriad scratched and gouged layers of blues, greys, pinks and whites are utilised to portray the physical and historic attributes of the Ghost Gum.

An iconic symbol that infuses Australians with a sense of place, is the Coolabah Tree.  Waltzing Matilda’s words ‘under the shade of a Coolabah tree’ raises goose bumps and confirms I belong – I am Australian.

When I paint, I usually include the human form and often a sense of what it is to be Australian.

This piece features the Coolabah tree; sitting underneath is a female figure, what is she doing there?

In my practice my preferred medium is oil and cold wax, this enables me to utilise many layers of paint to create interest and depth. Myriad scratched and gouged layers of blues, greys, pinks plus whites are utilised to portray the Coolabah tree and female figure.
