One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I therefore thought I would paint a few images that I could use for bookmarks as I love to slip a bookmark into all Birthday Cards that I send to family and friends.
I have chosen the theme for these bookmarks of Australian animals enjoying the pleasure of reading.
- First I painted Pete the Pelican, as I love watching these fellows. They always look so intelligent and I’m sure they would enjoy a good read as much as I do!
- I love listening to kookaburras laugh. They always look so cheeky and I’m sure they would enjoy a good laugh when reading a Joke Book.
- Ollie the Owl, with his thick reading glasses and intense gaze, definitely looks like a ’Book Owl’
- Joey certainly loves his Mother reading him a bedtime story.
- Kenny the Koala is enjoying his favorite story in the branches of a shady gum tree.
- My magnificent Black Cockatoo is enjoying reading a good yarn.
- Lastly, I painted Eccy who definitely loves a good read.

This February I am exhibiting in the RQAS Gallery, Broadbeach. The Exhibition is themed ‘Life is a Beach’.
Bathing at Burleigh and Beach Beauty are my 2 pieces to be exhibited. I have written a small poem on ‘Life is a Beach’ to accompany them.
Weekends on the Coast
Are the days I love the most.
Sun a bright hue
Rolling waves azure
Sand as warm as toast.
Got my towel, got my hat
I’ll be sure to slip, slop and slap
My bikini’s brand new
With bright colours all blue
What could be better than that.
Spending time with my mate
Delicious picnic to be ate
Other bikini’s to desire
Sleek boys to admire
All thoughts of dreary Monday can wait.
We all look up to the heavens and imagine the stars and planets are sparkling jewels dancing across the night sky. Our potential is like those jewels with a dazzling array of facets. Astrologers symbolically demonstrate that our human potential is virtually unlimited.
I have commenced a series of art – “It’s all in the Stars”. The pieces are about the images of Astrology – an interpretation of Astrological Symbols with a Picassiano twist – all are bright, colorful and a little different!”
To start the year the first piece is:
CAPRICORN – The Goat…December 22 to January 20
Capricorn’s are the movers and pushers of the zodiac, the ‘cardinal’ Earth sign, who likes to be in control of situations and to make your mark on the world. The Earth element means you are a sensate type, driven by practical goals, material ambitions and physical concerns.
As the cardinal Earth sign you lead the push to build powerful structures, which will stand the test of time. You seek security and stability and have a natural respect for social institutions, like the family and government organizations. If you decide you want to change something you seek to work from the inside to create change. You are most happy when you have a meaningful role, have autonomy and can engineer slow progress. Your key phrase: “I build”.
SATURN: Planet of Material Form – Your Planetary Ruler
Today’s pace of life is so hectic, everyone says the same thing. There are just not enough hours in the day – family, friends, home, work, art, the garden. I know that I certainly could do with 48 hours in each day.
I always try to plan for ‘free time’ for my art but life always seems to get in the way; so I was inspired to write this small poem.
Time for ME!
Today I have some hours free
I plan to have some time for me.
I’ll paint and write
Creative juices take flight!
No milk, I have to shop
The house needs a clean
What do you mean!
Unexpected visitors at the door
My free hours are no more.
Now the Day is done,
Ah well I had some fun.
BUT tomorrow pleease
May I have some time for me!
